The forum brought together leading global experts, scholars, and industry elites in the field of perovskite technology to discuss the latest advancements and commercialization prospects.
The forum commenced with an opening speech by Dr. Wang Jinshan, Founder and Chairman of SPS, who set a professional and forward-looking tone for the entire event.
Dr. Wang Jinshan noted that China’s perovskite industry has made substantial progress over the past years. In the field of technical equipment, SPS has emerged as the primary beneficiary. However, Dr. Wang emphasized that perovskite photovoltaic products are not yet fully mature and require continued efforts to prove their claimed advantages. Finally, despite the current somewhat subdued atmosphere in the broader photovoltaic sector, the perovskite industry is building momentum and preparing for a breakthrough of its own.
At this forum, SPS was honored to invite Prof. Michael Graëtzel, a pioneering in the field to deliver a keynote speech. Prof. Michael Graëtzel began by providing an overview of the global history of perovskite research, followed by the latest breakthroughs published in top-tier journals by EPFL, particularly highlighting the seminal paper led by first author Dr. Zheng Likai. This achievement is the result of extensive collaboration among numerous institutions worldwide.
Prof. Graëtzel also highlighted the latest developments in the industrialization of perovskite technology in Europe, including ongoing efforts in Turkey. He expressed anticipation for more substantial commercialization projects to materialize by 2025, alongside increasingly close technological exchanges and collaboration between China and Europe. We look forward to EPFL leading academic-industrial teams achieving further breakthroughs in all wet processing techniques, with optimism for the team led by Dr. Zheng.
Mr. Katsumi Araki, Sales Director of SPS International, delivered a presentation titled “SPS Coating Technology for Scaling-up Perovskite” and his speech became a notable highlight of the forum.
He humorously yet powerfully opened with the remark,” A Japanese man, working for a Chinese company, delivering a speech in English,” instantly energizing the audience while cleverly highlighting the international nature of today’s perovskite industry. As the presentation progressed, Mr. Katsumi focused on key technical issues such as coating uniformity and core functional layers including HTL and ETL. His professional in-dept content captivated the attention of a highly international audience, creating a deeply engaged academic atmosphere.
The afternoon session was chaired by Mr. Chen Yutong, General Manager of SPS International Business & Marketing Division.
The forum was characterized by an overwhelmingly rich academic focus in the morning sessions, while the afternoon agenda maintained a balanced and broad emphasis on industrial applications. Half of the speaking guests were international scholars, fully reflecting the event’s global perspective. During the interactive sessions, most questions were posed in English, further underscoring the dept of communication and collaboration within the perovskite industry worldwide.
Observations on overall trends from the SNEC SPS Perovskite Pioneers International Forum
1. Countries worldwide are actively engaged in perovskite technology research, and many are on the verge of industrialization.
2. Materials are critical factors
3. Testing and certification are essential challenging to standardize, this process will be lengthy and involve inevitable negotiations. Chinese testing institutions need to size the initiative, as traditional European agencies currently dominate discourse.
4. Visual defect inspection is a major focus, with significant progress being made in Europe and Singapore.
Insufficient investment is a global issue. A breakthrough product is needed to attract capital, draw more talent into perovskite, and fuel new innovations.
In view of the entire forum, the high-quality dialogue between Dr. Wang Jinshan and Dr. Yu Zhenrui, founder of UtmoLight, set a strong tone from the outset, elevating the forum’s significance and offering important insights for the entire industry.
This entitled SPS’s first collaboration with the SNEC platform on perovskite focused forum, while there is room to refine the details, the academic atmosphere were notably rigorous. The organization committee is working on upgrade of the next forum, which is expected to feature a stronger industrialization, attract more participation from the manufacturing sector, and even draw attention from downstream investors. We anticipate that 2026 will be a landmark year for perovskite, and the SNEC SPS Perovskite Pioneers International Forum will shine in its second edition.
